Tec Hut has been shortlisted in two categories at the National Recycling Awards 2026: Team of the Year, and Circular Economy Initiative. The awards are run by MRW (Materials Recycling World), which describes them as the largest and most prestigious awards ceremony in the industry. Winners will be announced in London on 1 December.
The news comes five months after we were named Independent Business of the Year at the letsrecycle.com Awards for Excellence. Being picked out by a second panel of industry judges in the same year is a proud moment for everyone here. You can see every finalist on the National Recycling Awards shortlist here.
Team of the Year
Team of the Year recognises people in the waste and recycling sector whose teamwork makes a project succeed. The judges look for collaboration that goes beyond what a contract asks for, a positive and balanced way of working, and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Every job we take on passes through several pairs of hands. Our drivers collect redundant IT from organisations across the UK, and the processing and warehouse team logs each asset so it can be traced from collection to the final report. From there our technicians erase the data, test each device and decide what can be refurbished, while the sales team finds a new home for every machine that is ready to work again.
Martin Reilly, our Managing Director, said: “This shortlisting is for the people who do the work every day, from the first collection to the last check before a refurbished laptop goes out to its next owner. I’m proud of every one of them.”
You can meet the team on our website.
Circular Economy Initiative
MRW gives the Circular Economy Initiative award to projects that keep products and materials in use at their highest value and out of landfill and energy from waste. Entries are also judged on new business models, support from customers along the supply chain and their contribution to the UK’s net zero goals.
Our process starts with reuse. When a business hands over its old laptops, desktops, servers and phones, we erase the data with certified software, or shred the drives if the customer prefers, and test every device. Those that can work again are refurbished and sold through our refurbished IT shop, and anything that can’t be reused is dismantled and recycled under WEEE regulations.
An organisation will only let a laptop go to a new owner once it knows the data is gone. That is why every job comes with a certificate of data destruction and a full audit trail. You can read more about how this works in What Happens to Old IT Equipment? and The Circular Economy Explained in 60 Seconds.
What it means for our customers
Awards give customers an independent view of a supplier, and they sit alongside the certifications that matter most in IT disposal. We hold ISO 27001 for information security and ISO 9001 for quality, are a licensed waste carrier and are registered with the ICO. The details are on our certifications and compliance page.
Thank you to every customer who has trusted us with their old equipment this year.
See you on 1 December
The ceremony takes place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Tuesday 1 December, and we’ll share news from the night on LinkedIn and here on the blog.
If you have IT equipment coming out of service, our team can collect it from anywhere in the UK. Book a collection or get a quote, or call us on 0330 124 4716.
